These recent projects are representative examples of our work.
Hingst residence: Built in 2000 this 7200 square foot Adirondack style home is not only massive in size (9000 square feet including the basement) but in the materials used to construct it. The concrete exterior is insulated concrete forms (ICFs) with 50% of it clad in full building stone. The interior features massive vaulted timber framing with exposed beams 20 feet up in the first floor great room. The five-bedroom home also features reclaimed oak floors, mahogany decking, custom glass and cherry cabinets and a geothermal heat pump system. The first floor master suite includes a sauna, steam shower, heated tile floors, his and hers closets and walks out on to a back deck. It is located in The Meadows in Goochland County. It was designed by architect, Ken Thacker.
Allen residence: The first thing you notice when you drive up to this English Tudor Revival home in Sabot Hill in Goochland is the brick tower that hides a two-story circular staircase. This 11,000 square foot design by architect Dan Ensminger uses Hardi panel exterior cladding to look like stucco and brick construction. The interior features a library with wooden built-in bookcases, a slate roof, a geothermal heat pump system, three stone fireplaces and two spiral staircases. A cherry-paneled elevator leads to the master suite and exercise room on the second floor. The home was finished in 2004.
Carlisle residence: This palatial 7500 square foot two-story Georgian Revival home is situated on a large piece of property in rural Ashland, Virginia. The all-brick house features a front porch done completely in cast stone, including the balustrades. The traditional floor plan includes five bedrooms with a master suite on the first floor. Features include heated bathroom floors, heavy ornate trim, wood paneled arches between rooms and a simulated slate roof. The house was designed by Dan Ensminger and finished in 2000.

XuQui residence: Overlooking the James River in Goochland. County this 14,690 square foot home has a Tuscan Villa exterior with an interior influenced by French Country, southwestern and hints of an Asian aesthetic. Architect James Bode worked with designer Chris McCray to create the 24-room, four-story structure with 13-foot ceilings on the first floor and a full basement with a wine cellar. Insulating Concrete Form (ICF) construction was used to create the house and the garage and guest/in-law suite that is connected by a breezeway. The home features two wrought iron and maple spiral staircases, a 1,045 square foot great room with a built-in 700 gallon saltwater fish tank, a Zen bathroom, geothermal heating system, five fireplaces, a planting room and an elevator. The second floor master bedroom has a balcony separated by a double fireplace and a European spa bathroom. The house was completed in 2006.

Matthews residence: The custom made curved staircase takes your breath away in this Cottage style two-story in Manikin-Sabot in The Meadows at Joe Brooke Farm. Completed in 2006 the 6500 square foot home combines Shingle, Tudor and English Manor styles. The brick exterior has bay windows with copper awnings and an imitation slate roof. The house has a first floor master bedroom and two bedrooms and an office on the second floor. The irregular polygon-shaped library that overlooks a private flower garden, is done is cherry paneling and shelves with a gold tea-paper ceiling. Custom distressed cherry wood cabinets in the kitchen hide many of the appliances. There are two Rumford fireplaces with cherry shelving around the one in the living room. The basement has another bedroom, an in-home theater room with stadium seating, a bar and kitchen area done in black cabinets and red countertops, a game room and a gas fireplace. The house was designed by architect, Dan Ensminger.
Harrison residence: This 15,000 square foot Shingle style river cottage was designed by Bond, Hugo Farley Architects. Located in Prince George County with commanding views of the James River it is a three story, seven bedroom home, with a full basement. The house features hard pine flooring, custom cabinetry and millwork, a slate roof and a geothermal heat pump system. The house was finished in 2006.
Wiltbank residence: The ballroom with maple floors and a complete sound system for ballroom dancing is the highlight of this Modern design by 3 North architect, Jay Hugo. Built in 2005 it showcases a style of house that is atypical for Dunkum, Inc. The house features 4200 square feet in a one story design with a basement. The exterior is done in large, tan commercial bricks. The house is wired for a totally programmable in-home lighting system. It is located in Goochland County.
Basso residence: The residents of this home liked Dunkum, Inc. and Ensminger Architecture so much that they not only had them build the house in 2001 but also build an addition in 2006. The 4500 square foot two story English Tudor Revival located in The Meadows features cast stone arched windows. The two-story great room has mahogany paneling, timber ceiling trusses and a cast stone fireplace. The unique floor plan combines rooms to create very large multi-use rooms including the den/game room, the kitchen/breakfast room and the living room/dining room. The backyard features a pool.
Peyton - Françoise residence: Completed in December 2004, this home was constructed on one of the last buildable lots on Richmond's historic Monument Avenue. Framed with Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) the residence has a traditional 3 - coat stucco exterior finish complimented by a Buckingham slate roof with copper gutters and downspouts. The interior features hardwood floors throughout, a round dining room, two stone and brick wood/gas burning fireplaces, whirlpool tubs, central vacuum system, front and rear porches and an inner courtyard.
